We would like to thank The Artist magazine for sponsoring the inaugural Wimborne Plein Air painting competition. At the forefront of the British artist community, the opportunity to partner with the magazine was an opportunity not to be missed and a natural pairing.
Incredibly, the magazine is Britain’s longest-established practical art journal, first published in 1931. As this event began to take shape, we knew we wanted the premier artist magazine in the UK to be involved. They generously offered a year-long digital subscription as a prize for Ferne Mills, the Youth Award highly commended for her entry. Ferne was thrilled to have access to the magazine for the year ahead, and we know she will benefit from all the practical videos, blogs and online gallery.
Copies of the magazine found their way into our Savills goodie bags – what a total delight to see artists and visitors settle down in deck chairs on this sunny bank holiday weekend to leaf through the mag! Introducing a whole new Wimborne fan base to this title and inspiring artists through the practical step-by-step painting guides. The front cover ‘Natalie Portman, Leon’ painted in watercolour by the sensational artist Mark Entwisle was seen everywhere!
The Artist launched its website PaintersOnline in 2007 as an online community and incredible resource for budding artists, amateurs and professionals alike. Intended as a forum for sharing advice, blogs, how-to videos, it has an online gallery and a database of art clubs and art tutors. The latest initiative is the Studio Membership, which unlocks access to exclusive offers and benefits to support artists on their journey, whatever stage they are at. And not forgetting The Artist & Leisure Painter Open Art Competition in partnership with Patchings Art Centre offering artists of all abilities the chance to earn recognition for their artwork.
The Artist ethos is one of inclusivity and community, which is very much in line with that of the Otter Gallery. It seems we are very much in sync and hope to collaborate with The Artist magazine as we continue to build our creative community around the gallery in Wimborne.
