Introduction to single-colour lino printing course

This is a relaxed, fun, interactive course for those who want to learn the technical process of single colour lino printing, using traditional tools and techniques. No previous knowledge of art or lino printing is necessary; this course is aimed at the beginner who wants to learn a new skill and discover the endless exciting possibilities ofprinting with lino!
We will cover everything you need to know to produce a high quality, single colour print; from the basic principles of lino printing and its capabilities, to end result ‘editioned’ prints that you can feel proud of. Over the course of four weeks, you will draw, plan, carve, register, ink, print and ‘edition’ a print of your own to take away with you, with enough knowledge and skills to be able to continue printing at home on the kitchen table (handouts will also be available to support this). We will enjoy the more therapeutic aspects of carving our blocks, alongside the sheer joy and excitement of ‘pulling’ our first prints, and the satisfaction of seeing multiple finished prints in different colours. Caroline will gently guide you through the process from start to finish, and will use a mix of demonstrations, chat, and most importantly plenty of hands-on work (drawing, carving and printing) to help you create your prints!
Caroline is a Wimborne-based Printmaker producing botanical and nature-themed lino prints to interpret the world around her. Her prints are simplified and pared-back to inspire a feeling of calm and simplicity, and use carefully mixed colours, pattern and negative shape to give her prints a light, modern feel. She loves the possibilities that lino printing brings (the more technical aspects alongside the sheer joy of pulling the first print!) and is delighted to be able to share this knowledge and process with others here at Otter Gallery Studios!
