Introduction to Lino printing day: 1 day course 10am-4.30pm

19 July 2024

Suitable for total beginners or those with some lino printing knowledge

1 day course 10am-4.30pm with approx half an hour for lunch

£75.00

A 6 ½ hour relaxed, fun workshop for people who want to learn the basics of single colour lino printing using traditional tools and techniques. No previous knowledge of art or lino printing is required; this is an introductory workshop aimed at the beginner who wants to learn something new, pull your first print and come away with your own set of handmade prints on good quality A4 paper.

We will spend a short time looking at an overview of lino printing (its materials and techniques) to give context and background knowledge, but the majority of the day will be made up of short demonstrations and lots of hands-on experience. We will practise carving techniques on test blocks, plan our finished pieces (tracing/drawing our designs onto Lino), and then spend time carving our own designs.  Caroline will take you through the inking and rollering process, all the time being on hand to help you whilst you learn this versatile printing technique.

All materials are provided, but you will need to bring in some ideas (either sketches or photographs) for your final design to work from. Any theme goes, just as long as it is A5 in size (145mm x 120mm) as we will be tracing our designs onto A5 lino blocks. Landscapes, portraits, botanical themes, still life, pet portraits: you can print whatever you would like to have on your wall at home!

This workshop is more in-depth than the shorter morning workshops, and you will have enough knowledge to carry on some basic printing at home! Short handouts will be provided with basic techniques and a summary of equipment used.
