Wimborne Young Artist of the Year is Back!

CELEBRATING NATURE’S BEAUTY AND LOCAL HERITAGE
 

We are thrilled to announce the return of the 'Wimborne Young Artist of the Year' competition! The theme for this year's competition is 'Local Treasures' - Celebrating Our Heritage and Natural Wonders. 

 

  

OPENING WEEKEND CELEBRATION AT BADBURY RINGS

 Join us on the Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th July, from 10 am to 3 pm at Badbury Rings for a weekend filled with creativity and history. In collaboration with Kingston Lacy, who are celebrating their Festival of Archaeology an exciting event part of the Council of British Archaeology’s Festival of Archaeology, we will be offering a blend of artistic and historical activities.

 

OTTER GALLERY AT BADBURY RINGS

All weekend, Otter Gallery will be at Badbury Rings with plenty of art supplies to help you create your masterpiece on the ancient hill fort. Whether you choose to recreate the rings, imagine their future, or reflect on their historical significance, Leave your artwork at the welcome tent with your details and enter your work into Otter Gallerys 'Wimborne's Young Artist of The Year 2024'. 

 

Along with our age category prizes, this year we have a special prize inspired by the National Trust. We will be looking for a piece that truly captures the National Trust's ethos of caring for nature, beauty, and history. If you are shortlisted for this prize, your work will be exhibited in the café at Kingston Lacy, and the winner will receive a prize to celebrate being our oversll winner.

ACTIVITIES at badbury rings all weekend 

 There’s so much to see and do while you’re there! Kingston Lacy has organized a fun-packed weekend to uncover 4,000 years of history at Badbury Rings. Enjoy guided walks, hands-on activities, and art activities.

 

GUIDED WALKS:

 

Saturday 13 July:

 

  • 10 am and 1.30 pm – Two-hour walk with National Trust Archaeologist, Martin Papworth. (£10 per person, pre-booking essential. Book online or call 0344 249 1895.)

 

Sunday 14 July:

 

  • 10 am and 1.30 pm – 45-minute introductory walk with National Trust Ranger, Luke Dawson, followed by an exploration with Collections Assistant, Ari Samadder. (Free, first come, first served on the day.)

 

OTHER ACTIVITIES:

 

  • Discover more about the history of Badbury Rings with Archaeologist Nance Grace and explore items unearthed during archaeological digs.
  • Try your hand at wattle and daub, experiencing how original buildings at Badbury Rings were made.
  • Discover the location and style of a roundhouse.
  • Enjoy family-friendly activities.
